CA: $111.8 million injected into solar program

The CPUC has authorized $111.8 million in funding for the New Solar Homes Partnership (NSHP) program. The CPUC’s decision also designates the California Energy Commission as the program administrator.

The program will be funded via a non-bypassable charge on customers’ bills. The CPUC determined that it would be premature to alter the existing program incentive design, but in light of suggestions made by stakeholders, it directed the CEC to explore potential changes. The CPUC also declined to establish utility-specific funding allocations, finding that a quota-based distribution of funding could hinder the program’s ability to reach its 360-MW target.
