NY: Central Hudson asks to extend net metering

Central Hudson Gas & Electric has sought approval from the New York Public Service Commission to continue to accept and approve solar net metering applications in excess of the utility’s 3% aggregate cap (36 MW) until the PSC makes further determinations regarding net metering policies, including caps. Notably, Central Hudson did not request permission to increase its cap to a specific level. The PSC has not yet ruled on the Central Hudson’s request (Case No. 14-E-0151), or on the merits of a separate petition for additional guidance on utility cap increase requests.

According to recent data from New York’s investor-owned utilities (which includes proposed projects that have not been completed), Central Hudson had reached 83% of its net metering cap as of September 30, 2014. National Grid had reached 102% of its cap as of the same date.
