GA: PSC to investigate value of solar, wind, biomass

Share

In response to a petition filed by solar advocates last year, the Public Service Commission will examine issues related to the value of renewables and distributed energy resources, in preparation for Georgia Power’s 2016 IRP. Although the petitioners asked the PSC to establish the value of solar energy delivered by customer-sited facilities to Georgia Power, the PSC believes it is also in the public interest to expand the scope of the issues to include utility-scale solar, wind and biomass, along with certain issues raised in Georgia Power’s 2013 IRP and in other recent PSC proceedings, and to incorporate them into Georgia Power’s 2016 IRP. The PSC seeks to narrow the issues addressed in the IRP and possibly to reach a consensus on the methodology used to determine the benefits and impacts of renewables and DER to Georgia Power’s system and customers.
