KY: Utilities propose 67% hike in residential fixed charge

Louisville Gas & Electric and Kentucky Utilities, both part of PPL Corp., filed separate rate case applications (Case Nos. 2014-00372, 2014-00371) with the Kentucky Public Service Commission on November 26, 2014. Each utility has proposed raising its fixed monthly charge for residential service (Rate RS) from $10.75 to $17.00, while raising its fixed monthly charge for single-phase general service (Rate GS) from $20.00 to $25.00.

LG&E, which serves 397,000 electric customers, has requested a 2.7% increase (totaling $30 million) through base rate adjustments. KU, which serves 543,000 electric customers, has requested a 9.6% increase (totaling $153 million) through rate base adjustments.
