The Public Service Commission has issued its 2014 annual net metering and solar program report, revealing an increase of 25% in the program’s size over 2013. However, the report also indicates that there were only 1,840 net metering customers in 2014, and that Michigan’s net metering program only represents 0.015% of Michigan’s retail sales. Despite the very low penetration rate, a DTE executive argued in a recent local editorial that DTE supports “updating” Michigan’s net metering rules to erase subsidies and ensure the rules “are fair for everyone.”
