NV: $5 million energy storage incentive program under development

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) has launched an investigation and rulemaking to implement a new law that will provide incentives for customer-sited solar paired with energy storage. S.B. 145 established an incentive program — within the Solar Energy Systems incentive program — for utility customers who install energy-storage systems paired with solar. Storage systems 100 kilowatts (kW) to 1 megawatt (MW) are eligible.

Under S.B. 145, the PUCN must: (1) establish a process to set and review incentive levels; (2) require that storage systems provide a minimum level of benefit to utility customers, including reducing peak demand, avoiding or deferring investments, and improving reliability; (3) and allocate the $5 million program cap across different sectors.
