NY: Net metering caps approach; solar industry seeks clarification

Numerous solar proponents have filed a petition with the New York Public Service Commission (Case No. 14-E-0422) requesting that the PSC clarify its April 2014 directive in the NY-SUN proceeding that directs utilities to seek increases in their net metering caps (currently 3% of 2005 peak load) when they approach the cap (pending completion of the PSC’s ongoing “Reforming the Energy Vision” proceeding). The petition specifically requests that the PSC require a utility to seek an increase when it reaches 90% of the cap and provide additional guidance to utilities on the magnitude of increase that should be requested.

As of June 30, 2014, National Grid had reached 86% of its net metering cap, while Central Hudson had reached 72% of its cap.
