NY: Utilities propose partnership to size up DG, storage

Share

In two concurrently filed rate cases, RG&E and NYSEG have proposed a REV-supportive initiative, deemed the Energy Smart Community Project, which would serve as a platform and test-bed for the utilities and several partners to evaluate central REV concepts such as Distributed System Platform Provider operations, distributed energy resource planning, marketing, third-party engagement and consumer participation. The platform includes working with an energy storage vendor or manufacturer to “demonstrate the benefits resulting from economic dispatch and enhanced reliability as a result of a smaller sized grid scale storage technology.” In addition to RG&E and NYSEG, the proposed partnership includes the City of Ithaca, the Town of Ithaca, Tompkins County and Cornell University.
